Hearing impaired unit

We are a unit catering for Hearing Impaired students ranging from prep to year 6. While the student’s primary disability is that of deafness, some students also have a variety of other disabilities including autism, visual impairment, intellectual impairment, learning difficulties etc.

These programs are delivered via Auslan, signing in English order and spoken English.

Features of our program

Specially trained teachers

  1. An appropriate language environment that meets the language levels of all students.
  2. Programs designed and implemented which meet the needs of the individual hearing impaired students – Individual Education Plans.
  3. Opportunities for students to integrate with their hearing peers according to their needs and abilities (social/academic integration).
  4. Access to speech pathologist – speech programs.
  5. Access to occupational therapist and physiotherapist.
  6. Auditory Skills program.
  7. Major focus on literacy.
  8. Parent programs.

What are we trying to achieve?

To provide, within an integrated environment, programs of quality and excellence specific to the needs of the individual impaired student.
